The second unique forbidden electron capture (EC) decay in 123 Te is calculated in the Proton-Neutron Quasi-Particle Random Phase Approximation (pn-QRPA), making use of Skyrme-type residual interactions. As in the allowed Gamow-Teller channel, the forbidden nuclear matrix elements depend sensitively on the competition between particle-hole and particle-particle correlations. We discuss the computation of two-body matrix elements from the Argonne v 18 interaction. The matrix elements calculation is presented both in particle-particle and in particle-hole angular momentum coupling. The procedures developed here can be applied to the case of other NN potentials, provided that they have a similar operator format.

We have used a Tilted Axis Cranking model in combination with particle number projection to analyze the influence of dynamical pairing correlations in the high-K bands of 178 W and their effect on the angular momentum and the relative energy. The results show that our model is able to reproduce the values and trends of the experimental angular momentum and relative energy as a function of ω.
